Basic Duct Work Trouble Shoot and Balometer (Hood) Static Pressure Testing

Hands-on short course with HVAC Expert Eric Kjelshus (over 30 years of experience)

April 20th
9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Hands-on short course
Course cost: $150.00

Meet at the training center: 2052 N Third Street, KCK 66101

PayPal link available through the website: www.EETCKC.com

HVAC Master Technician Eric Kjelshus will lecture and then complete a hands-on demonstration of a 3 minute, 10 minute, and 3-hour test for duct work design in real-world application. All three tests will be taught (scaled down version of the 3-hour test included). Short intensive hands-on course includes the opportunity for each student to actually perform the short tests and use the equipment individually. Anyone who has struggled with a duct blaster will be interested in the use of the balometer to perform somewhat similar testing – without requiring the blocking off of all the other registers.

This is NOT a class to teach detailed HVAC diagnostics – but is a great short course for any contractor or auditor who would like a better basic understanding of duct work design, and what causes holes in heat exchangers/ruins compressors.

Basic Test and Balance of air flow, filters, and motors, based on ACCA (Air Conditioning Contractors of America) and NATE (North American Technician Excellence) Airflow testing – including an overview of how to apply Manual J (7).

Dress for work, you will be dealing with some pretty dirty duct work!

BLOWING WALLS W/CELLULOSE

Saturday, April 10, 2010 9:00 am – 1 pm

Class will be limited to 15 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.

Short intensive hands-on course includes the opportunity for each student to actually blow cellulose insulation into a wall and feed the insulation machine. Instruction in calculating how many bags of cellulose are needed, where to purchase cellulose, and information about cellulose as insulation material (as compared to fiberglass or foam) is also provided. Dress for work, blowing cellulose is a “dirty” job. Dust masks will be provided.

Duct Blaster is a calibrated air flow measurement system designed to test and document the air-tightness of forced air duct systems in both houses and light commercial buildings. The Duct Blaster fan is connected directly to the duct system in a house, typically at a central return, or at the air handler cabinet. With the remaining registers and grilles temporarily taped off, duct air-tightness is measured by either pressurizing or depressurizing the duct system and precisely measuring the fan flow and duct pressure.
